Serano discusses the term monosexism to refer to the idea what being attracted to one sex is more natural than being attracted to multiple sexes (Serano, 82). They argue that this comes from the “monosexual assumption” that everyone’s sexuality falls within the binary of homosexism or heterosexism (Serano, 84). This type of thinking has led to bi-invisibility and erasure because bisexual people are presumed not to exist because they are assumed to be hiding their “true” sexuality, faking their sexuality, or are assumed to be confused (Serano, 85).
